What is American Bedrock? (a call for civic unity)

What is American Bedrock? (a call for civic unity)

What is American Bedrock?

What do those words mean to you?  America and Bedrock?
And not simple answers like freedom and liberty, and foundation.

We need real deep answers, from each of Us.

Because to me American Bedrock is the people, all of the American People; and right now we seem shattered.

We are approaching the 247th birthdays of our great country.
In three years that will be 250 years. 1/4 of a millennium. There are no modern nations nearly as old, claiming to be governed by the will of her people.

But our bedrock is not solid. Our society is cracked and seemingly getting worse. Some fear we will not make it to 250 without great upheaval and more violence.
I think we are better than that.

We have brought ourselves to the brink of catastrophe but I believe we have the strength to coalesce. To pause and reflect, as we celebrate 247 years of mostly unity; we each need to think of the future we want. For ourselves, our families and most importantly for our National family of all Americans.

And we can’t be afraid to talk to each other, about difficult topics. Which means listening to each other, and looking for common ground.

I still think we have much more in common than we have differences.

I think one of the things so many have in common is the belief that there is nothing they can do to change it and it’s not worth trying.

I think if all those people would give it one try, we would surely change things.

Our founders took action, against overwhelming odds; and changed the world.

They gave us this amazing country, and it is still ours to lose, if we refuse to give it the participation it requires.

I think the entrenched politicians in Washington would quake in fear if the disenchanted Bedrock of America would start to speak.

Let’s tune out the loudest voices and  ask the many to lend their thoughts and voices.

Let many voices, speaking softly and rationally, join together to show us the way out of this division, and reunite our house divided.

I call on every American to reflect on our 247th National Birthday; to consider deeply; What is American Bedrock to me?

What do I want for my country, this year and next, so that as we approach 250 years of nationhood we are a nation once again truly united and rich with the promise of our patriot ancestors, leading the world into the future.

As it was then, we can only do this by pulling together, speaking our minds collectively to determine for ourselves and our families future;

what is American Bedrock for the next 250 years?
